Back in November I sent out a call to small business owners/entrepreneurs around the Philadelphia area willing to share their story. They were to step into my world for a bit to get interviewed as well as have their headshot taken to be featured alongside their story.
This definitely took time and effort on my part to set all this up, record and edit the interview, add another headshot session into my schedule, retouching, etc, etc. So that begs the question:
Why am I doing this?
Simply put – it’s to give back and inspire others.
Starting and running your own business can be a lonely experience that requires a lot of grit to keep moving on. Unlike a regular job through an employer you don’t have a pre-existing structure to work from nor any teams in place to share the diverse set of work required to get any job done – you’re not even guaranteed a paycheck. It is ultimately up to you to build everything from scratch.
That being said, when I started my business I had no shortage of people willing to lend advice, help and even mentor me. I was, and still am, amazed at the amount of time folks were willing take out of their busy schedule to help others on their road to success.
However, even beyond getting help on the nuts-n-bolts of running a business is the theme of inspiration. Even when I was still working for a major Wall St. firm in NYC(a story for another day) I was always enamored with folks having the gall to go out on their own and pave their path with both successes and failures along the way. It was all those stories that ultimately inspired and drew me towards wanting to start my own business and control my own destiny.
This is why I will be sharing these stories with you. I’ve met some great people doing some great things around Philadelphia, their stories were inspirational and eye-opening to me and I hope they will be to you as well.
Stay tuned for the first installment of this in the next day or so!
